"MISSION: The Opera Undercover Agent" Release Commemoration Event

Prime Video's "MISSION: The Opera Undercover Agent," starring Shunsuke Michieda of Naniwa Danshi, began streaming on September 14th.
This story follows elite detective Kanata Matsumi as he goes undercover to uncover the perpetrator of a drone bombing incident. To blend in with the predominantly female student body of Tsubakino University of Arts without being discovered, Kanata disguises himself as a woman. However, his encounters with students who dedicate their youth to musicals lead him to become engrossed in musical rehearsals rather than focusing on his investigation, resulting in an unusual story that blends undercover work with musicals.
On September 14th (Monday), the day the film was released, a commemorative event was held at United Cinemas Odaiba to celebrate its release.
The main cast members, Shunsuke Michieda, Shiori Kubo, Nagisa Shibuya, Anna Ishii, and Ryusei Fukada (ACEes), appeared on stage, and the venue was filled with excitement.
■The streaming has finally started. How do you feel about it?

Michieda: I'm so excited because this day has finally arrived. I've also been really looking forward to being able to talk about the work in front of all of you.
The theme song, "BLACK OUT MISSION," is a more mature and dark song, quite different from our usual style. I think it's a perfect fit for the atmosphere of the work, and it's available for streaming starting today, so I hope you'll give it lots of love.
■In keeping with the film's title, "Opera," what is your favorite scene that left a particularly strong impression on you?
Michieda: We had a rehearsal for a musical dance scene with Kanata (Michieda) and Misuzu (Ishii), and after the rehearsal, Ishii grabbed me and said, "You're just a complete amateur!" There's a scene where Ishii's energy is incredible... I was really shocked (laughs).
Ishii: You changed the lines that came after that, didn't you? (laughs)
Michieda: It was so powerful that I unconsciously changed my line to "I can't take it anymore!" (laughs). It was really that shocking.
Ishii: I put all the humiliating anger I felt at having my role taken away into my performance (laughs).
Michieda: I got the message. I was really nervous (laughs).
Kubo: For me, it's definitely the musical scene. In the scene where Kanata (Michieda) comes and starts the musical lesson, there's a moment where the music stops and he says, "One more time!" That part went on forever from the middle until the director called cut... The intense exchange with Ishii wasn't in the script and was improvised, so it was quite tense. It was filmed in a documentary style, and the director told us before the actual shoot, "Go ahead and do it," so we really clashed with each other while acting.
Shibuya: For me, it's the acting of Masahiro Takashima, who played the head of the Public Security Bureau, Doigaki. It was really wonderful, and you could feel that he had a lot of affection for Kanata (Michieda). When I was reading the script, I was surprised to hear that there were a lot of ad-libs, like, "Wait, was there a line like that!?" I heard that the ad-libbed scenes got so elaborate that it was difficult to cut them down, and I thought that was a great highlight.
Ishii: For me, it was the rehearsal scene. We were running behind schedule, and there's a scene where the two of us practice dancing at the end. We tried out various patterns, like "Should we dance facing each other?", before filming, which was pretty intense.
Michieda: I usually practice choreography with the other members of Naniwa Danshi, but I've never practiced choreography with a co-star like this before, so it was a really fresh experience. I think it's a very important scene because it deepens the bond between Misuzu and Kanata.
Fukada: I found the musical scenes impressive, but aside from that, Michi-kun's action scenes were particularly memorable!
Everyone: Micchi-kun!?
Michieda: Huh?! Well, I don't really get called "Micchi-kun" that often (laughs).
Fukada: Oh, really? I usually call him Micchi-kun. It's not like I'm calling him that just for today.
Michieda: Yeah, it's calling out to me.
Fukada: I've gone off on a tangent a bit (laughs). Michi-kun's action scenes are amazing. I got to do some action practice with him once, and he's practiced a lot. I did some action practice too, but it was just "practicing being stepped on," which is basically just practicing being used as a stepping stool. But Michi-kun did all the action perfectly, and I thought it was really cool! Did you practice a lot, Michi-kun?
Michieda: Practicing the action scenes was difficult, but I really put in a lot of effort.

■This film's story involves Kanata, played by Michieda, and Mizuki, played by Fukada, infiltrating a university disguised as women. So, please tell us, "If you were to infiltrate a university, what kind of place would you go to and with whom?"
Fukada: My idea is to "infiltrate a women's university with all the members of ACEes!"
Everyone: Wow! Amazing! (Applause)
Fukada: For some reason, I hear people saying, "Is that okay?" (laughs). It's totally fine! I've been cross-dressing the whole time, and I'm not really used to it myself. It's been a while since I cross-dressed, and I was really embarrassed, so I wanted all the members to experience that embarrassment too. I wanted to see everyone's real cross-dressing. I don't think it'll suit them, though (laughs).
Michieda: No, don't say that! (laughs)
Fukada: I'd love for us all to sneak in and participate in a school festival! I'd like to set up a stall and take pictures.
Ishii: I'd like to sneak into a bakery with Shiori! Shiori made homemade salt bread for us on set once, and it was the best in the world. I heard she's good at making bread, so I'd like to sneak into a shop with her and knead some dough. Did everyone try it?
Fukada: I didn't eat it.
Michieda: Why are you speaking in a Kansai dialect?
Everyone: LOL
Kubo: Why didn't you eat? Weren't you there?
Fukada: They weren't there. Ah, what a waste!
Shibuya: I know this might sound like a bit of a fight over Kubo-san, but I'd like to "infiltrate the world of Chiikawa" with Kubo-san! I recently watched the Chiikawa movie with Kubo-san. We came to the conclusion that "there weren't any bad guys in that world," but you can't really know until you're actually there, so I'd like to infiltrate the world of Chiikawa and find out for myself. I'd also like to become one of the characters and sing and dance.
Kubo: I'd like to go abroad with Ishii-san! Just before starting work on this project, I went to Finland by myself for the first time, but it was full of mishaps and I didn't enjoy it. I told Ishii-san about it and asked him which overseas destination he enjoyed the most, and he said Finland. He said, "Let's go together next time, I'm confident I can make sure you have fun," so I thought I'd like to sneak into a foreign country.
Michieda: I'd like to sneak into a live concert venue with the other members!
Everyone: Huh? What do you mean? At whose concert venue?
Michieda: Oh, come to our live show.
Everyone: Why? (laughs)
Michieda: Well, that's what I thought (laughs). As a performance element, I thought it would be exciting if the members were hiding in the audience to surprise them. I think it would be fun if all the members dressed in drag and hid in the audience, and then when it was time to appear, they would suddenly rip off their costumes and come out in their stage costumes!

■Finally, do you have a message for us?
Michieda: Thank you all for coming today. I think this is a work that will make you chuckle and make you feel the friendship and youth, so I hope you will immerse yourselves in the world of MISSION again and again. I would also be happy if you listen to the theme song a lot. Thank you very much.
