Please tell us your thoughts after finishing filming.
This film deals with special adoption and infertility, but 25 years ago I had no knowledge of these topics.
In the past, things were simpler, for better or worse. Nowadays, we can look up anything on a computer or smartphone, so we live in an age where we are blessed with new discoveries, but on the other hand, I think it can be overwhelming with so many options.
I think if you can live your life by distinguishing between truth and fakery, you'll be first-class.
What are the characteristics of this work?
Director Kawase, who took the helm this time, is known for her documentary-like feel in her work. She was constantly told, "Don't act," and "Live in the film."
For example, I scouted locations that will be visited in the film in advance, and approached filming with the mindset that the places had become places of memories for me.
In one scene, the camera started rolling and I was told, "Okay, I won't give you any lines, so just become Kiyokazu (my character's name) and act freely! Start!" and the words that came out naturally from me were used in the film.
I think it is precisely because the work was completed using this technique that it has such a vivid feel, as if you are peeking into the home next door.
A message to university students.
We live in an age where we are overwhelmed with choices. That's why I think it's difficult to find what you want to do. I hope you take your time and don't rush into finding it.
However, doing what you want to do comes with a great deal of responsibility. I want you to make your own decisions, choose your path, and work with passion and the awareness that whatever happens, it is your responsibility.
