■What was your student life like?
I attended a university on the west coast of the United States for two years. After classes were over, I enjoyed my free time by playing baseball in club activities, going for drives in the car I bought with the money I saved from my part-time job, and generally anything else. At the same time, I had a strong desire to try my hand at a career in the entertainment industry, something I had always been interested in, so in my first year of university, I sent my resume to the agency I'm currently affiliated with, which was the first step that led to my current job.
What was the turning point in your work so far?
I guess it would be the play "My Hole, His Hole," which I appeared in last year. It was the production that made me feel the most like I'd grown. The play was a two-person play with me and another actor, and it was my first attempt at it. I think I was able to overcome it at the time because I was able to change my mindset and work hard for the sake of my fellow actors, the director, and everyone else who worked with me to create the play. Also, my number one priority is to "not get attached" to one job. This is because, no matter what job I'm doing, I want to keep my eyes open to new worlds and avoid closing my eyes to events happening in the world. Going forward, I want to continue to value a mindset that is open to anything and willing to try anything at least once, without being tied down to my job as an actor.
■Please give us a message for university students
When you start working as a member of society, you really don't have as much free time as you did when you were a student. I hope you don't waste your time, but rather have fun and learn to your heart's content. Also, at my age, I feel like there's so much I don't know about the world. So I hope you'll be grateful for your current environment and never stop learning.
