Yukino Kishii: To convey my feelings, I value my own passion and everyone has the same enthusiasm.

The Lord of the Rings(Kishi Yukino)
■ Profile
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1992, she made her debut as an actress in 2009. In 2017, she played her first leading role in the film "Grandpa Died," for which she won the Best Newcomer Award at the 39th Yokohama Film Festival. She has appeared in a variety of films, TV dramas, and stage productions.
■What did you want to convey with the film "The Sea"?
Mana, the character I played, is unable to come to terms with the reality of having suddenly lost someone important to her. I found this very heartbreaking. Within the theme of friendship, the director told me that he wanted to express "walls." People have walls, and it is precisely because there is beauty in not knowing that we can become close. Even I sometimes feel that there is something about friends I respect that I cannot mention. In this film, their backs are very striking, so I hope that from that, you can sense that they are chasing after someone.
■What do you value?
I value my passion in any project. I believe that without passion, no matter how good a project is, it will not move people's hearts. It is important that the whole team works with the same enthusiasm, rather than just the director or actors having passion. For this film, I spoke a lot with the director, and in order to play characters of a wide range of ages, I received support from many people, including the makeup artists. Everyone wants to create something good. I hope to cherish passion more than being too concerned about what must be done.
■Please give us a message for university students
Try everything you want to do. I think it's fun to worry too. Also, up until now, partings have been marked by closures like graduation ceremonies. However, just as Mana suddenly loses someone important in this work, from now on partings will be sudden, like the ebb and flow of the tide, and they will be moments when our lives branch out. But please don't be afraid and keep moving forward.
■ After the interview
I was very impressed by how carefully Kishii answered each question. It was clear from his words that he values the warmth of the on-site atmosphere.
