Since her first drama appearance in 2010, Kasumi Arimura has appeared in numerous popular works and won the Japan Academy Award last year.
This time, the popular manga has been adapted into a movie, and it has been released in theaters nationwide since February 23rd (Thursday, national holiday). It is also being simultaneously distributed worldwide on Netflix."Chihiro-san"We asked Arimura, who plays a role that overturns the conventional image of a "former sex worker," about the thoughts behind the film and what the highlights are.

A work that saves the soul"Chihiro-san"

When I heard about this project and read the original manga, I was so drawn to the main character, Chihiro, that I became a fan myself. I remember feeling that this work would surely be a salvation for people who are finding life difficult in today's times, as it would quickly relieve them of any resentment they may have. Especially with the COVID-19 pandemic making us spend more time alone, I decided to take part in this work with the thought that "being alone is not something to be afraid of, but rather it could be a time that increases your happiness. I want everyone to live confidently and with dignity, as they wish."
For example, there is a line in the work that goes like this: "Food tastes better when eaten together, but good food is also good when eaten alone." Humans are creatures that seek empathy, and when they are unable to empathize, they feel alienated. I feel that this line, which affirms the tactics of human relationships, is unique to Chihiro.
Chihiro is a child who didn't receive enough love from her parents, and I believe that she maintains a comfortable distance from those around her because she is afraid of losing something. However, that distance feels comfortable, and it makes people want to open up to her, and Chihiro herself has received love from those around her and knows warmth, which is why she is able to love one person.

A woman named "Chihiro"

I was worried that Chihiro's appearance might not be my own, so we researched and discussed things like her speech pattern, hairstyle, and glamorous features, but I didn't want to go overboard, so we decided to go with her as she was and dive into the world of this work. I imagined a lot about Chihiro's past, and I realized that she entered society as a member of society, as what society would call an ordinary woman, but she felt a difference in standards with others and something that made it difficult for her to interact well, which led her to work in the sex industry. As I was acting, thinking about how I could express her detached demeanor, as if she had lived one life, I felt like I was pursuing the character of Chihiro. That's why I naturally ended up calling her "Chihiro-san" instead of "Chihiro."
Rather than feeling like I was living Chihiro, I felt like I was looking at her objectively. I think it was the first time I had felt that way. At the same time, she is someone who has the strength to confront the thorns that others throw at her, saying, "I know you want me to be hurt, but I won't be hurt." In that context, I was conscious of Chihiro's easygoing side, which doesn't interfere in things in a good way and doesn't expect anything from others.

Leaving a work in someone's heart

What I felt working with Director Imaizumi this time was that he is a person who is full of curiosity, and has his own way of fighting within himself. I got the impression that he has some complexes or struggles, and that he is digesting them one by one through filming. In return, he carefully instructed me on even the smallest nuances, and I was able to surrender myself to that while filming. There were no special requests, but I played Chihiro in a bright and cheerful way, without making her too dark. I think that many of the director's works evoke the warmth of everyday life, and I would be happy if that could be conveyed to many people.
It may sound like a very idealistic thing to say that I think it's wonderful to work as an actress, but I hope that even if it's just one piece of work, it will reach someone's heart. I've recently come to realize that this is why I continue to do this job.
At the moment, there's nothing I want to try other than acting, but I would like to try writing a script someday. I think there are many different genres of work, but I like works that don't have too much explanation and have a sense of space, so I would like to create a work like that.

I imagine that many university students have a vague idea of what their ideals are, and don't know what they really want to do.
In times like these, first try to find the root of the ideal you have in mind. Once you find it, I think things will go much more smoothly. It will be as if timing and luck come naturally. Your perspective will suddenly broaden. I hope you can successfully find the root of your ideal.

She has acted in the NHK television series "Hiyokko" (2017), the films "We Made a Beautiful" (2021), "Ex-convict" (2022), "Ishiko and Haneo" (2022), and "Phases of the Moon" (2022). She is currently starring in the NHK Taiga Drama "Dosuru Ieyasu," and her film "Chihiro-san" was released on 23 February on Netflix and in theaters.

Kasumi Arimura – since her first appearance in a TV drama in 2010, she has starred in various popular films and received a Japan Academy Award last year.

This time, she played the lead role in the film version of the popular manga Chihiro-san, released in theaters all over Japan on 23 February (Thursday, a national holiday) and is also being streamed on Netflix worldwide. We asked Ms. Arimura, who plays a role that overturns the conventional image of a 'former sex worker,' about her thoughts on the film and its attractions.

Chihiro-san, a film that saves my heart

When I read the original manga after being told about this project, I was so fascinated by the main character, Chihiro-san, that I became a fan. I remember feeling that it must be a film that would help people struggling to live in today's world as if it helps them overcome their problems. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, people were spending more and more time alone, and I felt that being alone was not something to be afraid of but rather something that could increase one's level of happiness. I decided to participate in this film because I wanted everyone to live confidently and proudly as they wished.

For example, there is a line in the film that goes like this: 'A meal eaten together is tasty, but a meal eaten alone is also delicious. People are creatures who seek empathy and feel alienated if they cannot empathize. I feel that this line is unique to Chihiro-san, as it affirms such tactics in human relationships.

I interpreted Chihiro as a child who did not receive enough love from her parents and maintained a comfortable distance from the people around her, probably because of her fear of losing something. However, I think such distance is comforting and makes everyone want to open their hearts to Chihiro-san, and Chihiro-san herself can love one person because she has received love and warmth from the people around her.

A lady called "Chihiro-san."

I was worried that the visual of Chihiro-san wasn't me, so I researched and discussed the way she speaks, her hair, and the glossy look, but I didn't want to overdo it, so I decided to go with it basically as it is and let myself dive into the world of this film. I imagined a lot about Chihiro's past, etc. She entered into society as a member of society, as a normal woman in the public sense, but felt something different from the scale of other people and something that prevented her from mixing well, and she found the sex industry as a profession. As I was thinking about how I could express the appearance of a woman who seemed to have reached a certain level of maturity and completed her life, I was following the character of Chihiro. That may be why I naturally called Chihiro-san instead of Chihiro.

It was closer to the feeling that I was objectifying Chihiro than the feeling that I was living as Chihiro. I think it was the first time I had such a feeling. At the same time, she is a person who has the strength to face the other person, who says, “I know you want me to get hurt, but I won't get hurt,” in response to the thorns that come flying at her from the other person. In this situation, I was aware of Chihiro's frankness, not interfering in things in a good way, and not expecting things from others.

To stay a film in someone's heart.

When I had the opportunity to work with director Imaizumi this time, I got the impression that he is a person of great curiosity and has a way of fighting within himself. I got the impression that he has some complexes or struggles and digests them individually through filming. Because of this, he gave me careful instructions about even the most minor nuances, and I could surrender myself to the filming process. I didn't get any special requests, but I cheerfully played the role of Chihiro without being too serious. I think many of the director's give a sense of the warmth films of everyday life, and I would be happy if that could be conveyed to many people.

What is wonderful about being an actress is that, although it might be just a nice word, I hope to deliver even one of my films to someone's heart. I recently felt again that this is why I am doing this job.

At the moment, I don't have anything else I want to try other than acting, but I would like to write a script one day. There are many genres of works, but I like works that don't explain too much and give a sense of space, so I hope to be able to create such works.

I think there are many university students whose ideals are too vague and who don't know what they really want to do.

In such cases, first try to find the root of the ideal you have in mind. Once you have found it, many things will go very smoothly. It feels as if something like timing or luck will come to you on its own. I think you will expand your perspective all at once. I hope you will successfully find the most essential core values.

Performer Arimura Kajin

■ Introduction
Born February 13, 1993. Starring in the NHK TV drama "Hiyokko" (2017), and the films "A Love Like a Bouquet" (2021), "Ex-Convict" (2022), "Ishiko and the Man with the Feathers" (2022), and "Phase of the Moon" (2022). Currently appearing in the NHK Taiga drama "What Will Ieyasu Do?". The film "Chihiro-san" will be screened on Netflix and cinemas on February 23rd.

Since his first appearance on TV in 2010, he has appeared in Arimura Kajin's work, Takabe Tanaka's work, and last year's Nippon Film Academy.
The next revised self-published manga-like video was screened nationwide on February 23rd. ``Chihiro-san'', starring Homeroom Teacher, will be screened globally on Netflix. When I heard the performance, the ``Mae prostitute'' was a visually appealing Arimura woman.

■'Chihiro-san' is a work that saves my soul.

When I arrived at the original manga for the first time, I was drawn to the main character Chihiro, and since then I have also completed my own work. I will be able to record my impressions of this work, as well as help others who are struggling to live at the moment, and help other people escape from their own self-consciousness. Of course, during the current epidemic period, people are forced to take over more than one year. It's a time of happiness when you feel confident. ``My decision was made by the advisor, so I thought about it and passed away.''
This is a Japanese version of the same phrase in the work. “The first meal is delicious, but the delicious food is also delicious.” Human beings are like-minded creatures who are unable to sympathize with others, and the sense of meeting is far away. This is Chihiro's unique and unique behavior.
Chihiro-san is a child who can be loved by both parents and children, and my understanding is that it is possible for the cause of the damage to be lost in the East and West, and to maintain a reasonable distance between the talented and the surrounding people. However, due to the distance between the two, each person's imagination opens the door to thousands of people, and Chihiro is able to love a person more than himself, which is why he has received so many people's love, and is so warm and warm. My thoughts.

■A woman named "Chihiro"

I don't have the image of Chihiro-san, so I've studied Japanese, I've read it, and I've read it in Japanese. A world similar to the works of Nōjō Hōinuri. I imagine Chihiro's past experiences as a woman with a lot of experience, an intrusion into society, a worker in society, a normal woman in work, but a difference in the scale of other people's lives, an inability to travel to different places, and an adult career. When I was acting, I was following Chihiro's perspective, and how I thought and expressed my thoughts were far-reaching, and I was a human being in my first life. However, I am also called Chihiro-san's schoolmate "Chihiro-san", but I am also called "Chihiro-san".
If I were to look at Hiro-san, I would be looking at him, but if I were to look at him myself, I would be Chihiro-san. As I think, this is my first impression. At this same time, there are some powerful people who are fighting against the enemy, and the translation is: “I know what you think about me, but I don't want to harm you.” Under the current circumstances, we have arrived at Chihiro's unconventional situation, and this is a refreshing side of the unexpected.

■Works written by a certain person in the heart

Next, I am a person who is fully curious, and who is also a self-conquering person. My impression is that there are various other circumstances, such as the existence of a certain incident, the conflict, the progress, and the other facts that exist. Other than that, I will continue to give detailed guidance, directly reach the most detailed difference, and I will give in at the moment. I have special requests, but Chihiro-san plays in a bright and cheerful manner, but I have no special request, but I have a bright and cheerful style. I have seen so many works that I have learned how to experience the warmth of daily life, and how many people have experienced the various aspects of my life.
I know that my work is a beautiful work of a single actor, but it is possible that my own life will come true, but I hope that my work will be able to touch and a certain person's inner thoughts, and the immediate envoy will only be one incident. Recently, I have come to the following confirmation, and this is due to my work.
At present, I will not be able to present the performance, but there will be a copy of the original version. I am certain that my works are of many different types, but that I am not happy with them, and that I have a sense of space within them.

I have a lot of student's ideals, but others don't know how to think about themselves.
Under the current circumstances, this is the ideal foundation in your mind. As far as I am concerned, my thoughts and circumstances have progressed and I have achieved success. At the time of your visit to the East and West, you have arrived. I'm sure you'll be able to see the show as soon as it opens. The most important part of my hope for success.
