■ A dynamic and scenic course
The ANA Open Golf Tournament has been held here since 1973, and this year marks its 49th anniversary. The Wattsu Course is a very attractive course where you can enjoy the beautiful natural scenery. With such a diverse course, you can get a feel for the dynamism and diverse techniques of the male professional golfers. It will be interesting to see how the players tackle the course.
I think the appeal of golf is being able to play in the midst of magnificent nature, and being able to interact with others through your play while feeling the nature. We have carefully designed the positioning of the stands so that not only players but also spectators can enjoy the game from the best position. We hope that as many people as possible will enjoy the game.

■Connection with Kitahiroshima City, Hokkaido
We at the secretariat are involved in preparations for the tournament, partnering with sponsoring companies, and public relations activities.
This year's record-breaking heatwave caused much grass burn, but thanks to the tireless work of Sapporo Golf Club, who worked day and night to maintain the course, we were able to hold the tournament without incident. There were some mishaps, such as the cancellation of the first day due to heavy rain, but we're really glad that the sun was shining today. The ANA Open Golf Tournament also values its connection with the local Hokkaido area. At this tournament, we have a corner called the Gallery Plaza selling products such as hometown tax donations. Not only do we have the opportunity to enjoy delicious Hokkaido cuisine, but we are also contributing to the revitalization of the region. Next year will be the 50th anniversary, marking the half-century anniversary of the tournament. We want to ensure that this tournament doesn't end as a passing fad, and we aim to build connections with the world by producing a winner from our local city of Kitahiroshima.

■Message to university students
Students have limitless potential. It's wonderful to work hard towards your dreams. Even if those around you oppose you, I hope you don't limit your possibilities and pursue your dreams with all your might.

We also had the opportunity to ask the players about the appeal of golf.

■ Player interviews

1st Place: Tanihara Hideto

Inspired by those around me, I started to focus on practice, and gradually began aiming to become a professional. The difficult part is keeping my condition consistent throughout the year and minimizing ups and downs as much as possible. Even when I'm not in good form, it's best not to get my hopes up, and when I'm in good form, I try to keep it in check.
I think the appeal of golf is that it can be played by people of all ages, including children, and can be played all over the world.
I want university students to always find goals, never be satisfied with them, and continue to have the desire to discover new things.

Tied for 4th place: Shugo Imahira

Influenced by my father, I started playing golf, and since I was in elementary school, I would go to the driving range every day as if I was going for fun. I just loved golf, and since I was playing, I wanted to aim to become a professional.
It's not just about distance, but also about how you approach the ball with your putt, giving you a chance to beat stronger players. This is what I find so appealing about golf. Of course, there are times when things don't go well and it's tough, but I think it's very important to be able to do what you love as a job.

6th place tie: Semikawa Taiga

I first got involved with golf when I was 18 months old. My father, who loves golf, gave me a toy Anpanman golf club as a gift. Ever since I first picked up a club, I had already dreamed of becoming a professional golfer by the time I was in kindergarten, and I played in my first tournament when I was in the third grade of elementary school.
Golf is a sport that you play alone over a long period of time, so it can be tough when you can't hit the ball well. However, once you've thought up solutions to improve and practiced, the moment when the ball goes into the cup is truly amazing.
I was a university student until last year, and as a result of my continued efforts to become a professional golfer, I believe I was able to achieve my dream. I want to tell people that if you don't give up and keep trying, your dreams will come true.

Takumi Kanaya (tied for 16th place)

I started playing golf because of my parents' influence. I think the biggest appeal of golf is that it can be played by people of all ages, and that it's a competition against yourself, not against others. There are many difficult things in practice, but I believe that the pain and suffering that you experience will ultimately show in the tournaments.
I'm sure there will be both happy and sad times during your university life. Those emotions and memories are irreplaceable, so I hope you will cherish each and every day.

Tied for 20th place: Mikumu Horikawa

It all started when I went to my father's driving range with my older brother when I was in elementary school. I also played tennis and swam, but joining the competitive golf club in high school was an important factor in deciding where to go to college. I decided to go pro in my third year of university, which was a fairly late start for a pro player. However, I believe that being passionate about one thing and mastering it has led to my current job. Golf is something that I have been able to play thanks to the many connections I have made, so I would like to continue playing it even as I get older.

Tied for 44th place: Yuta Ikeda

I started playing golf because of my grandfather. I was fascinated by golf from a young age, and as soon as I started, I decided to aim to become a professional. When you turn your passion into a job, it's not always fun. In order to overcome various obstacles, such as my physical condition, I place great importance on how I organize my emotions at the time.
As a professional, I would like to continue playing in a way that shows my distance and technique even on television.
My university life is one of the most irreplaceable memories of my life. I still treasure the connections I made as a university student, so I hope you will also treasure the wonderful friends you made.

Tomohiro Ishizaka

I started playing golf because of my parents' influence. I originally played baseball, but I was drawn to the sport because it wasn't a team sport and I found it very appealing to meet all kinds of people through tournaments. The reason I decided to aim to become a professional was because I was very disappointed when I failed to qualify for a tournament I participated in as a junior high school student.
Golf is different depending on the weather and the course, which is what makes it fun and difficult. The fact that you can play in nature is also a big attraction.
There are many things that university students will face in the future, but I believe that working hard and honestly at everything you do will lead to a brighter future.
