Even when I auditioned for Kamen Rider Zero-One, which was a turning point for me, I honestly thought, "I probably won't get in." But even then, I was very conscious of "doing something different from the people around me."
For example, when it came to my improvisational one-man show, I took a minute or two to deliver it, whereas other participants finished it in about 10 seconds. Perhaps this differentiation from the others paid off, because I unexpectedly passed the test.
"Kamen Rider Zero-One" is a work that built the foundation for me as an actor. During filming, I made a conscious effort to accept all opinions from those around me.

■ Mission and responsibility as an actor

In acting, there is a deadline and goal for each project, so once I decide to do something, I just do it. Even if I have the next project lined up, I first put all my effort into the role in front of me. In a creative environment, if I make a mistake, it will affect the whole team and cause trouble for many people. Of course, I can't make mistakes, and I can't be late or sick. I believe that acting is a job that comes with a lot of responsibility. That's why I'm always on my toes.
Recently, more and more people have become aware of me, which makes me incredibly happy. At the same time, I'm also ready to take on the responsibility of being "Actor Takahashi Fumiya." I've always tried to appear strong, but recently I feel like I've caught up with that ideal of myself. I want to continue growing as an actor, and I'd be delighted if I could inspire others to become actors themselves.

Having known the original manga for a long time, I was a little worried at first about whether I could play the role of Nishikata. Whenever I work on a work that has an original, I try to copy it exactly, but this time the setting is 10 years after the original. I watched the manga and anime many times, and went into the performance with an awareness of Nishikata's habits and Nishikata-like characteristics, such as the habit of scratching his head or the position of his hands.
I write out Nishikata's movements, facial expressions, and other characteristics for each scene in the script, but I forget everything just before the performance. In order to avoid my acting coming off as forced, I empty my mind before filming. If I have a history of inputting information about the role, my body will move on its own even if I clear my mind.
What made the biggest impression on me during filming was the abundant nature of Shodoshima. I was incredibly excited to be able to film on Shodoshima, the sacred ground of "Takagi-san," and I really got a feel for the island's charm. Before filming began, I went cycling and fully enjoyed the island's atmosphere, imagining what kind of place Nishikata grew up in and what kind of person he will grow up to be on the island. By communicating with the locals, I felt like I understood why Nishikata has stayed on Shodoshima for 24 years.
I feel confident that only I can play the role of Nishikata, but at the same time, I'm a little scared of how people will react to this work. I hope that people will watch it without forgetting that this work is set 10 years after the original work.
This work has the perfect relationship between Nishikata and Takagi, which was also depicted in the original work, and an atmosphere that only the two of them can create. I would be happy if people could see the everyday conversations and relationship between the two of them and feel, "So something like this can make your heart flutter."
