International STEM Presentation Competition

Nippon Otis Elevator Co., Ltd.(President and CEO: Thibaut Lefébure, Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter referred to as Nippon Otis) has announced that it will be participating in the " 2020 International Presentation Competition for Students," an international presentation contest for students hosted by Otis Worldwide Corporation (NYSE: OTIS).Made to Move Communities™The University of Tokyo announced that a team from Kaetsu Ariake High School (Koto-ku, Tokyo) won second place in the Asia-Pacific region at the 4 Urban Green Space Challenge. Now in its fourth year, the competition saw student teams come up with innovative solutions aimed at improving access to green spaces in cities, with the aim of improving residents' physical and mental health.
Nippon Otis is the Japanese subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corporation (NYSE: OTIS), a global leader in the construction, installation, maintenance, and renovation of elevators and escalators.
Seventeen student teams (115 students in total) from nine schools across Japan applied for the domestic qualifying competition held in 2023. After a document screening by judges from Nippon Otis, five teams were selected as finalists. The five teams then gave online presentations to the judges in English, and the team from Kaetsu Ariake High School emerged victorious. The team from Kaetsu Ariake High School represented Japan in the Made to Move Communities competition, which began in December 2023.
In Made to Move Communities, student teams representing each country, supported by volunteer Otis employees, used STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to develop solutions to improve access to parks in cities. The team from Kaetsu Ariake High School proposed a solution called "GreeNomad."
Green Nomad, a combination of the words "Green" and "Nomad," is an idea that places plants inside public buses equipped with hydrogen-powered batteries, providing people with an easy green space experience in their daily lives. More than 240 students from 15 countries and regions participated in this year's Made to Move Communities.
Kaetsu Ariake High School has been awarded a $15,000 grant from Otis to further advance the school's STEM education program.
