"Forbes JAPAN 30 UNDER 30 30" selects 30 people under the age of 2024 with the aim of discovering future innovators who will change the world. The awards announcement ceremony was held on August 8th at Shibuya Stream Hall in Tokyo.
"30 UNDER 30" was launched in 2011 by the US edition of Forbes. Every year, young innovators are selected with the aim of discovering future innovators who will change the world. This is the seventh time the list has been run, and with the help of over 7 advisors, the editorial department ultimately selected 80 candidates. The advisory board includes Japan's leading business leaders, such as Hiroshi Aoi (CEO of Marui Group) and Tomoko Namba (Managing Partner of Delight Ventures/Chairman of DeNA). In addition, big artists active both in Japan and overseas, such as Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Enon Kawatani, and practitioners and experts from various fields, such as illustrator/animator Mai Yoneyama, who has fans all over the world, also participated as advisory board members.
■ "Forbes JAPAN 30 UNDER 30 2024" Audi Special Award (ENTERTAINMENT Award) Actor Mio Imada

I never expected to receive a special award, and it makes me feel like I've become an adult. I'm very happy to know that everyone is paying attention to me. I believe I am where I am today because I've been inspired by so many people around me. Whether it's people in the entertainment industry or friends from my hometown, seeing how successful they are makes me want to work hard too. Looking at the seniors I admire, I want to work hard at the things in front of me so that I too can finish my twenties without any regrets. I also want to cherish every moment so that I can become someone who inspires others.
I will be starring in the morning drama "Anpan" next year, so I hope everyone will watch it.
I often go to Kochi Prefecture, where the morning drama is set, so I'd like to take a leisurely drive there.
■ Singer-songwriter Aiko

I have continued to pursue the path I believe in and take on various challenges with the support of those around me. In particular, I feel that this award is not the result of my own efforts alone, but is due to the support of many people. As we launch new projects with our colleagues and move forward with initiatives for the future, receiving this recognition is a great encouragement.
I have always valued taking on new challenges. I will continue to uphold my beliefs and aim for even greater heights with my team, creating new value. In particular, by working on projects that contribute to society, I will continue to work hard, thinking about the impact we can have on the next generation. I will continue to work hard to meet your expectations, so I appreciate your continued support.
■Actor Hoshi Moeka
Up until now, I have always cherished the connections and encounters I have had with friends and the people around me. Even though we are not related by blood, there are people who think of me like family, and they have supported me. My motivation for my activities is cats and miso soup. When I come home and see my cats, I feel motivated to do my best, and when I drink miso soup, I feel healthy and refreshed.
I don't live my life with a strong sense of purpose, trying to change the world or break new ground. I tend to just go with the flow. However, I hope that the world will become a place where each and every person can live their own life, without being bound by social trends. I believe that receiving this award is a moment when my laid-back way of life has been recognized, so I think it is very meaningful. I would like to use this as encouragement to work hard in my future life and activities.

■Special makeup artist Kaiho

Ever since I was a child, I have loved imagining and creating things. For me, special effects makeup was like magic, allowing me to give shape to the world of my imagination. Special effects makeup involves many complicated steps, making it difficult to create on your own. That's why I consider the presence of my atelier members to be indispensable to me. I'm also very grateful to my parents for always supporting me and allowing me to do what I love.
I have always pursued the things I love and the things I want to do. What has driven me in this is the desire to "create mysterious worlds that are unimaginable." Creating works that no one has ever seen before is very interesting to me. I would like to continue to bring excitement to people all over the world through "special effects makeup."
■ Yui Otsuki, CEO of FinT Co., Ltd.
I was already familiar with Forbes JAPAN 30 UNDER 30, so I'm very happy to receive this award. While I was a student at Waseda University, I founded FinT, a company that handles marketing using social media. We have 100 employees, and our average age is young, at 26, as we wanted to expand opportunities for young people to thrive. It's been eight years since we started the company, but our strength remains our ability to adapt to the changes that young people face, and we get to see new horizons every year. This is all thanks to the support of our colleagues. We aim to become Japan's first global company, leveraging each of our strengths and driven by the desire to "make Japan more positive."
Recently, I feel like young people have lost hope for the future. My goal is to spread the word about the good things about Japan overseas by helping Japanese companies expand globally. I would encourage all students to find what they like and what they want to do, and to try as many things as possible.

■Reiwa Romance Takahiku Kuruma

I believe that it was the support of my fans that led to this award. Because of my job, I spend more time with my fans than with my family and friends, so perhaps my fans know the real me better than my family and friends. My job as a comedian is only possible with the support of my fans, so I am always supported by them.
My driving force is Shohei Ohtani. We're the same age. No matter how successful I feel at work, when I see him hit a home run the next day, I think, "I still have a lot more to work on." I haven't given up on surpassing him yet. And now I'm thinking about distributing baseballs to elementary schools all over the country. He's been distributing gloves to elementary schools all over the country, right? But because he's so naive, he hasn't realized yet that you can't play baseball with just a glove (laughs).
■ Impressions from covering the award ceremony
The award recipients are all under 30 years old, and in today's society where people are said to live to 100 years old, they are active as innovators who are changing the world.
The award winners all said that during your student days, you should just find something that you find fun. They told us that if you don't know what you want to do, just try doing what you love and you'll find the path you should take. I myself had already decided what I wanted to do in the future, but this opportunity made me strongly feel that by taking on many challenges, I could see a different future than before.
