■ Profile
In 2008, he won the grand prize in an exclusive model audition for the men's fashion magazine "FINEBOYS" and made his debut as a model. In October 2009, he made his acting debut in the TV Asahi special effects series "Samurai Sentai Shinkenger." In 2018, he won various film awards, including the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 42nd Japan Academy Awards, for his role in the "The Blood of Wolves" series. His film "Let's Talk About Suomi" is currently in theaters, and his period drama film "Snow Flowers: Tomo ni Arite" is scheduled to be released on January 24th next year.
Matsuzaka Tori has been appearing in popular films since his debut. Despite his refreshing appearance and humble attitude, his acting ability and presence, which have earned him numerous major film awards, are overwhelming and powerful. We spoke with Matsuzaka about what motivated him to become an actor, how he approaches his work, the mindset he values, and what he keeps in mind every day.
■ During his time at university, he decided to continue acting
When I was a student, I didn't have any dreams or aspirations for the future. What got me started in this line of work was a modeling audition for the magazine "FINE BOYS" that I applied for in my second year of university. At the time, I just went with the flow and the momentum of my friends who supported me, and I don't think I was really thinking about my future. I was lucky enough to win the grand prize and made my debut as a model, but I only worked twice a month, so to be honest, it felt like a part-time job. However, as a perk for winning the grand prize, my agency encouraged me to audition for "Samurai Sentai Shinkenger," and I ended up passing. I took on the challenge with absolutely no acting experience or knowledge, so I feel really lucky (laughs).
Once filming began, I began attending university less frequently and even took a temporary leave of absence. While I was working on my acting career, I discovered the joy of acting and became determined to pursue this career. When I told my parents I was dropping out, they were very against it, but I didn't waver. I think this was the first time I was determined to stick with something for a long time. The filming was a tough experience, with encouragement and scolding that I can't imagine now. It's such an important experience that I always think back to it when I need motivation. Another memorable work that really attracted me to this job was the film "We Can't Change the World." Filming with local children in Cambodia was a shocking experience, and it was my first overseas location shoot, so I learned a lot. Acting allowed me to learn about the world. My appearance in this film further increased my expectations for acting.
■ "Work" to enrich your life
I don't live for work, but rather believe that work exists for my life. At first, I felt like I was devoting everything to my work, but now I deliberately try to take a bird's-eye view. It's a good way to relax, which has helped me notice things I hadn't noticed before and become grateful for the things I take for granted. The appeal of acting is that it allows me to experience so many different things virtually. No matter what role I'm playing, there are times when I think that I might have that side to me, and I sometimes discover a new side to myself through the role. Perhaps it's because I view my work as something that enriches my life that I'm able to switch gears so well. Everyone has their own way of preparing for a role, but in my case, I always read the script. I read it about 100 times on average, and by reading, I can see even parts that aren't written in the script. I find the process of imagining and incorporating the role into myself quite enjoyable.
The most enjoyable part of my job is the moment the project is finished. During filming, there are more difficult and challenging times than fun ones, so the sense of accomplishment and fulfillment when it's finished is exceptional. I also feel a great sense of joy in having been able to run through it together with all the people involved, including the director and cameraman. Once a project is finished, I keep it as a precious memory, so I don't often look back on it and reflect on it. I also feel a little embarrassed when I look at myself (laughs).
Apparently, someone once asked Chaplin the following question: "What is your best work?" To which he replied, "The next one." Your best is always the next one. It's a great saying, isn't it? I want to give my all every time so that I can say the same. Not being too hung up on the past and moving on to the next thing is one of the ways of thinking that I hold dear.
■ Build up your strength for your turn
By nature, I tend to get bored easily, so I try to raise the bar a little at a time each time. Overcoming hurdles will make me work harder, and I think I'll be able to continue for a long time. It's also important to set many small goals that seem within reach but are not. In the future, I'd like to try my hand at scriptwriting, and as I believe both are the same in terms of expression, I'm also interested in expressing myself behind the scenes. I've always loved fantasizing, and I've had the experience of having my own serials published in magazines, so I have a large stock of ideas I want to write. In order to make them a reality, I'm always conscious of keeping my antenna up.
As an actor, I want to be able to appear in any genre. Any role I'm called to play will be an experience and a learning experience. To achieve this, it's important to work hard on the job I'm currently being given. I always imagine making the circles on my balance sheet bigger evenly.

Unnecessarily lost in the past, eternal success "lower part"
Tori Matsuzaka's works have been constantly appearing since his debut. There is a refreshing appearance and a contrasting attitude, and there are many different performances and presence in each TV movie. Let me give you Mr. Matsuzaka's true thoughts on the origin of other actors' causes, how do you wait for other people's work, consider other methods of thinking, and other objectives for every event in the world.
■Determined schedule for performance at university
When I was a student, what dreams did I have in the future? This is the time report for my second year at the university, ``FINE BOYS.'' At that time, I was just following the wave, I was supporting my friend, and I knew that I had lost my future. I am lucky to have earned a large sum of money, but I have made a special journey, but I have only been working on it every month. However, with great encouragement and encouragement from the organization, I participated in the review of ``Samurai Sentai Shinkenger'' and received the copy. I am currently in a position to accept the challenge under the circumstances of my knowledge and knowledge.
After that, the number of students at the university was just beginning, and it took a while for the university to take a break. At the time of my performance, when I arrived at the performance, I also decided to pursue the performance. When my parents and I graduated from university, we encountered so many people's backlash, but we apologize for the inconvenience. This is what I think about the long-term conclusion of my first decision. The next time I beat the drums, I received an imaginative drumming and encouragement. This is a very important organization, and every time I encourage myself to think, I am here to remind myself of the meeting. This is a serious piece of work that leaves a serious impression on me: ``We can't change the world.'' ”. This is some videos, famous. When I was in Lipu, the children of my hometown in Zhailand were shocked, and because of this, I was the first overseas student, and since then I have come to study in Duo-West. I understand that this is the same time as I am acting in this world. After appearing on TV, I am looking forward to further acting work.
■ “Craft” life as a wealthy person
I am not going to work and live my life, but I am going to work and live my life. In the beginning, I am currently working on putting all my effort into it, but currently I am waiting to see if the angle is better. If you are coming from a particular direction, you will be able to reduce the burden on your shoulders, so please note that I have not been able to pay attention to the circumstances before, and I am currently very capable, but the circumstances are slightly easier to see. Because of the attractiveness of the performance, there are many different circumstances. When I don't play the game, I can see what I'm capable of, and when I see it, I can see the new side of myself. This is also true because I know that I can work and live a rich life, so I am able to achieve this success. There are many different ways to do this, but please read the book as soon as possible. I have an average of about 100 readings, and I have read all the books in the East and West. Imagining this person's personality is very interesting.
The most enjoyable part of my work is the moment the work is completed. During the fast-paced period, there is a huge amount of work to be done, and the sense of accomplishment upon completion of each item is unparalleled. We have a high level of talent, comprehensive direction, production, film director, resident ownership consultant, and the first completed item. Once I completed a piece of work, I saved it as a rare memory, so I didn't have to repeat it again. I'm also a self-centered person with unfavorable intentions (lol).
For a long time, a man asked the question: "What is your best work?" and then answered: "The bottom one." My favorite forever is the bottom one. This is my favorite translation. I can talk about the same thing, and I will try my best to think about it every time. The way I feel about this incident is the way I think about it.
■ Your combined capacity
I don't feel like it's easy to reach, so every time I try to pass a high school exam, I score one point. My thoughts are that I have to work harder to overcome obstacles and maintain my position for a long time. It is important to note that the legal requirements for the actual implementation of the regulations are very important. After that, I thought of copying the copy, and both believers and I were on the same page, so I was very impressed with the way I wrote the book after the Shogunate. I am a day dreamer, and I am a photographer, and the content is similar to what I imagined it to be. Now that the envoy has arrived, I have to maintain a meaningful understanding of my horizon.
This is a typical piece of work with a single actor and a number of talented performers. No matter what color you play, the general will be able to learn how to play the first role. As it turns out, it is very important to complete the distributed work at a glance. I am an imaginary, uniform land, and my investment is a superficial field.
