Terry Ito Column Vol.40 What are the lucky spots in 2025?
The car magazine "Best Car" often conducts its coverage in Odaiba. This is due to the low traffic, which makes it easy to film driving scenes, and the sparse crowds on weekdays, which means it's difficult to spot new cars. For these reasons, it's been a popular filming location for decades. After filming, it's customary to head to the nearby Odaiba DiverCity for tea or a meal. On this day, the usually empty food court was surprisingly crowded. There were tons of young women, forming long lines at each restaurant. Most of the women were wearing miniskirts—extremely miniskirts, in fact. The colors were vibrant, including leopard print, polka dots, black lace, leather, and silver glitter. It was a strange sight, especially in the cold season, when it was rare to see women in miniskirts on the streets of Tokyo, but here, it was on another level. I was taken aback by the sheer glamour, but I soon discovered the reason.
Apparently there's an event for the rising male idol group "NCT WISH." They're a handsome group consisting of four Japanese and two Korean members, born from a popular audition program. This makes sense. As fans, they're surely dressing up to the nines, hoping the boys will spot them in the audience. Even on a date with their boyfriend, they probably wouldn't wear something this sexy. I've also never heard of male fans spraying sexy cologne all over themselves when going to a concert of their favorite idol. Perhaps this is the privilege of women in love. Still, the colorful fashions make the city more fun. It's a welcome encounter.
Speaking of which, unlike other countries, once Christmas is over, Japan quickly removes its illuminations and switches to New Year's mode. The fantasy of yesterday is gone, and suddenly, pine decorations are up. Of course, I don't dislike New Year's, but I can't even bask in the Christmas afterglow, and the New Year rolls in before I've even had a chance to see Santa Claus off, so every year I feel conflicted. As the vibrant colors of Tokyo fade, the only thing that saves me is the illuminations at Tokyo Tower. The tower, shining against the clear winter sky, is unmatched in beauty in spring, summer, and autumn. Where can I find a spectacular view from when the stars are frozen? The view of Tokyo Tower from Zojoji Temple, a temple associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu and located below Tokyo Tower, is breathtakingly magnificent. It's enough to make you forget the cold and stop and stare.
It's nice to visit various shrines and temples in 2025, but making a wish at the divine tower from here is sure to bring good fortune.
