◆What do you keep in mind to live your life as you are?
I think I've always had a strong belief that "there is always a way, regardless of the environment I'm in." I've always wanted to be someone who can make everything I say come true. I dreamed of entering the entertainment world, and posting videos on the popular video sharing service "Vine" at the time led to many people finding me.
In Japan, one failure tends to be taken very seriously, but since coming to America, I've come to think, "I should just enjoy being more free." I have the mindset that "anything will work out," and the confidence that comes from accumulated experience. And what's most important is to communicate your ideas yourself, rather than expecting others to understand them.
◆Please tell us about the movie
I was originally a big fan of Wicked, and I had a strong image of the English character in my mind, so I had a hard time acting in Japanese.Wicked: The Two Witches movieis a work that teaches us the importance of growing while accepting differences. I believe that each viewer will gain courage by facing their own doubts and conflicts.
◆Please give a message to the students
Students today live in a rapidly changing age. Social media can make them compare themselves to others and feel anxious about the future. But there's no need to rush. Life is what it is, and you have to carve out your own path. I was thinking about getting more acting work when I heard about "Wicked." I encourage everyone to speak out their dreams.
◆After the interview
Kemio was friendly and easy to talk to. It was wonderful to see him being himself and enjoying the things he loves, and it made me want to live like that too. His words, "Life is what it's made of," gave me the opportunity to relax, as I tend to overthink things.
