Terry Ito Column Vol.55 I rented a large warehouse in Yokosuka
I'm an avid car lover. Needless to say, most people know this. I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad, but my car had to go in for inspection three weeks in a row. I posted a picture of it being taken away in a truck on Instagram, and it ended up on Yahoo! News twice in a row. I recently bought "the world's most beautiful sedan," a Citroën C6, and I made the bold move of selling it after only six months. My excuse: the passenger window broke while I was parking it, and when I took it to the dealership, they said it would take four months for the parts to arrive from the UK. While I was talking about this in front of the shop, I noticed a Renault Avantime, which I'd been interested in for a while. The manager said, "It's about the same price as a Citroën C6, so I'm happy to trade it in." So, I ended up getting a Renault Avantime. I'm not a big fan of cars.
But even so, my love of cars is unstoppable. Come to think of it, I'm a respectable senior citizen myself. I don't know how long I'll be healthy enough to drive. So, for the time being, I've decided to spend the next few years trying out as many cars as I like. I'll buy as many as I can and drive as many as I can. However, I have certain criteria for what I buy. I'm not interested in expensive supercars like Lamborghinis, Porsches, and Ferraris, or luxury sedans like Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, and Mercedes-Benzes. To be honest, I don't have the budget for them, and car enthusiasts will probably be angry with me, but I'm the type of person who buys a car and then immediately wants another one, so I want to keep driving affordable cars one after the other. I don't want to see the same car on the street.
So where should I store my car? I asked Ikura-chan, my YouTube partner, for advice, and she said, "We both have homes in Kanagawa, so it would be best to store it somewhere around Yokosuka." It's true that monthly parking fees in central Tokyo are often ¥1 to ¥2, and even maintaining a few cars would be a huge expense. So I consulted my friend, Mr. Hasegawa of Blue Auto, a used car dealership in Yokosuka, and he found the perfect warehouse in just two days. It was located on a main street, could accommodate more than 20 cars, and had easy access. What's more, the landlords were both incredibly talkative and had wonderful personalities. The husband was the same age as me, so we got along well, and we had a great time talking about being racers in his youth. After negotiating, they even agreed on a reasonable rent. All the conditions were met. I'll visit MAJ in Yokohama, Bakuyasu Auto in Chiba, and Auto Ace in Odawara, where the foal Pony is an icon, and look for an affordable, fun car. Knowing me, I have a feeling I'll get bored of my car after a while, so please buy one when the time comes. The name of the garage has been decided to be "BUCKDROP T&I"! We will be buying cars you've never seen before, so please come visit us someday. Of course, we will also have Ikura's car! If you find a good car at a car dealership in LA, please let us know.
