Lecturer: Masaaki Uchida, CEO of TOP CONNECT Co., Ltd.
profile:
Originally from Aichi Prefecture, he graduated from Waseda University and worked at Sanwa Bank, a bento delivery business, an apartment developer, and a club manager in Ginza before becoming Secretary General of the Japan Venture Council. He is also the founder of Employment Division Co., Ltd. He currently provides consulting services focusing on personal connections, and founded TOP CONNECT Co., Ltd. in June 2014. His major works include "Illustrated Guide to Building Personal Connections" (Kodansha +α Bunko), "Not Qualified as a Politician" (Businesssha), and "Amazing! Business Models" (Banraisha), totaling 39 books.
■ Key points of the course
"Quality of effort is more important than quantity, and ingenuity and systems are essential to move up."
In the days before social media, he would train himself by going to bars in luxury hotels and talking to company presidents, and he taught us that the important thing is to "take the initiative to meet people you want to meet."
He also spoke about the "right way to do things" and the "importance of having someone to talk to," sharing his experiences when he opened a club in Ginza in his 30s.
He believes that "if you consult with an ordinary person, you will only get an ordinary answer," and emphasizes that it is people from different industries or positions who should be consulted.
He continued, "In school exams, it's forbidden to ask for help from others, but in business, asking for help from others is actually the shortcut to success. It's all about speed, completeness, and cost, so it doesn't matter who you ask for help from," emphasizing the importance of actively asking for help both inside and outside the company to achieve results.
He also stated that success also requires the ability to delegate rather than doing things yourself.
■ Impressions from the course
I was particularly impressed by the words, "If you ask an ordinary person for advice, you will only get an ordinary answer." I believe that people unconsciously understand this, and that is why, although values vary, they tend to aim to "get into a famous university" or "join a famous company." Having Uchida clearly articulate this in class, I felt that many students' thoughts and awareness of their own choices and actions changed.
(Yurie Watanabe, second-year student at Josai International University)
You can't win with just passion. The most important thing is to do it the right way.
You don't have to do business alone. You can work with others, but you just have to reach your goal as quickly as possible. It's important to break away from your conventional wisdom.
It's fine to do everything yourself, but it could end up being a long detour. The most important thing I learned was to do things quickly and freely.
(iU1st year KT)
I learned how to connect people and how to build a business. Above all, the instructor was very enthusiastic and it was fun.
There are many people who talk about connections with others, but I don't really get it... But this class was a lot of fun and I was able to learn.
(iU 2nd year CY)
