STUDIO4°C, a creative group led by Eiko Tanaka, who served as line producer for "My Neighbor Totoro" and "Kiki's Delivery Service" (directed by Hayao Miyazaki), has many fans around the world thanks to its high-quality images and unique worldview.[A story of love and miracles that transcends race and culture]This original animation is made with a focus on hand-drawn animation, with each picture drawn individually, and features an overwhelming amount of drawings and beautiful background art, creating a lively and cute depiction of the love story between a human and a mermaid.
Prior to the film's release, a special collaborative dolphin performance with ChaO and a preview screening with a stage greeting, the earliest screening in Japan, were held on July 1st.
In the special collaboration dolphin performance,Suzuka Hiroshi (role of Stefan)とAnna Yamada (role of Chao)AndShunsei Ota (role of Juno),after that,Director Yasuhiro AokiI also participated in the special screening with a stage greeting. This was the first screening in Japan since the film won the Jury Prize at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
■ Stefan: Yoji Suzuka

The character I played, Stephan, is a young man who, due to past events, develops a screw that doesn't harm marine life.I want to show that single-minded dedication.I thought. It's wonderful to see someone dedicate their life to one thing and continue to do it, and I want to work like that too. Before filming, I watched various anime to imagine Stefan's voice, and the director set aside a day to coordinate my image with him. I thought it was just practice, but when the director said, "We can record this," and the real thing began, I was really excited (laughs).
I continue to think of Stefan like that.Chao's charm and devotion are also appealingThe story is set in a society where humans and mermaids have yet to coexist well, but Chao's straightforward behavior still makes me fall in love with him.I think another highlight is how the delicate emotions of the two characters are carefully portrayed. Also, because it's a film with an original worldview, I think the more you watch, the more you'll get hooked. I hope you'll leave the cinema feeling happy and refreshed.

■Anna Yamada as Chao
Chao are really cute and devoted, and although they are not yet used to life in the human world,I felt so much love for them as they tried their best. While acting, I was also healed by Chao's straightforward feelings. I didn't have much experience as a voice actor, but with advice from the director and staff, I tried to find my own way to make Chao unique and approached the role carefully. I thought there were not many similarities between me and Chao, but during the interview,"They're similar to Chao in that their emotions are immediately reflected in their facial expressions."When I heard that, I felt that it might indeed be true.Chao are creatures who can continue to think of someone with sincerity, and they are admired and respected. The fantastical underwater world and beautiful cityscapes are some of the highlights, and the characters that appear are unique and truly charming. I think it's a film that will leave you with a warm feeling after watching it, so be sure to check out "ChaO" this summer.

■Juno: Shunsei Ota (OCTPATH)

I'm so excited that everyone can finally see the movie!
I was drawn to the way Stefan and Chao came to understand each other.
I am truly honored to be a voice actor for the first time in this work. To be honest, I was a little nervous, but I studied the rules and etiquette of the voice acting industry before entering the booth. As I was the first to record, there were still some things I didn't understand, but I was able to relax and enjoy the recording by talking with the director.
The link to Juno, the character I played, is"A place that's so straight you can't see what's around you"It reminded me of when I moved from Fukuoka to Tokyo and rushed ahead without consulting my parents much.
What was just as shocking as this movie was that I placed 6th in the first audition where 101 people competed for a debut. I didn't intend to get carried away, but the members of OCTPATH told me, "You were getting carried away back then. We hated you." Looking back, I'm happy.

■Director Yasuhiro Aoki
This will be the first screening in Japan, so people's reactions will be important, and I'm looking forward to hearing every single response to see how well the film will be received by the Japanese public.
Both Stefan and Chao are clumsy.I created the characters so that after watching the film, you would think they were cute or cool.I think you'll feel something for each character, so I hope you enjoy it.
2 months agoAnnecy International Animation Film FestivalAfter the award was announced, I thought I might be able to enjoy other films, but I didn't have time for that. The staff were surprised and delighted when we received the Jury Prize unexpectedly.
I was really grateful for the reaction of the audience who saw the work, and it gave me a sense of relief. Ciao was really popular locally. When I have a stuffed animal, people often ask me, "Where can I buy one?" or "Can I take a picture with you?"I also signed autographs until 1 or 2 in the morning, until I ran out of paper.
