Dress rehearsal report for the stage production "Nihon Sankoku" "Now the curtain rises, let's talk about a new future"

From Friday, July 25, 2025 at Theater H in Tokyo"Three Kingdoms of Japan"has opened.
"Nihon Sankoku" is a manga by Ikka Matsuki that has been serialized since 2021 on the manga app "Manga One" and the web comic site "Ura Sunday" (both published by Shogakukan).
This fictional war story is set in a near future where civilization has collapsed and Japan has been divided into three countries, and follows the exploits of a young man named Misumi Seiki, who aims to reunify Japan. Its unique setting and realistic depictions have attracted attention, and it has received high praise and support from fans of history and fictional war stories.
The script and direction is by Nishida Daisuke, who is highly praised for his skillful portrayal of historical and ensemble dramas, as well as his profound human drama and stylish direction.
The lead role of Mikata Aoki will be played by Shohei Hashimoto, and the cast will also include a number of talented actors.
This time, we covered the dress rehearsal that took place at Theater H on July 25, 2025.
■A stunning worldview! ~Student theater report~
It was a spectacular production, as if all of history were condensed into one piece. One after another, unimaginable events unfolded before my eyes, and I was constantly shocked, as if I had been thrown into the midst of that era. As the line between good and evil became blurred, the characters clashed with each other, each upholding their own sense of justice, and the production made me ponder the serious question of what true justice is. Even more impressive was the way the characters, living in turbulent times, desperately tried to survive, making the most of their individuality and strengths. They stuck to their beliefs and risked everything they had to run through the times. I think the human conflicts and the strong will to move forward into the future nonetheless gave this epic story great depth and emotion.

We have had high expectations for the stage play "Nihon Sankoku" since the staff and cast were announced in March.
Right from the start of the show, I was deeply drawn into the world of "Nihon Sankoku" as depicted through Nishida's unique direction. What was particularly impressive was the way in which Nishida's works, which are characterized by the intertwining of the present and the past, which remains a masterpiece no matter how many times you watch it, are portrayed differently through lighting direction. What's more, the women who appear in Nishida's works, in common with all of his works, are charming in that they combine strength with elegance and beauty, and I would like you to pay attention to the way this naturally overlaps with the female character Wajima Sakura.
One scene in this film that deserves special mention is the debate scene of Misumi Seiki, played by Hashimoto Shohei. His lines, which reveal a glimpse of passionate conviction despite his calmness, seem to be speaking to us as the audience, creating a sense of tension and immersion.
"To change the world," the protagonist, Seiki Mikata, rises up to fight not with military force but with the "power of words." His actions touched my heart, and at the same time, it made me want to start again with this first step.
I would like everyone to come and see the play, not only those who love the stage and support the cast, but also those who love the original work! I sincerely hope that the final performance will be without a single person missing!
