The 2nd UNAVERAGE FES.

A cross-cultural event between sports and music"UNAVERAGE FES."
"UNAVERAGE FES.", hosted by professional basketball player Yuki Togashi, was held at BUNTAI in Yokohama on Thursday, August 28th.
This truly "UNAVERAGE" day, where cultures that transcend genres, including sports, music, and people, blended together, has evolved even further.
Now in its second year, this event transcends the boundaries of "people, music, culture, and sports" and is a cross-cultural event that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. It is a one-of-a-kind festival where you can enjoy not only top players who lead the basketball scene, but also various sports content from athletes active around the world, and live music performances by popular artists. This time, we participated in a roundtable interview with players Yuki Togashi, Yuta Watanabe, Misaki Matsutomo, and Masahiro Yanagida.

Born July 30, 1993 (Heisei 5), in Niigata Prefecture. He began playing mini-basketball in the first grade of elementary school. He won the national championship in his third year of junior high school and was selected for the Japan Under-15 and Under-16 national teams in his second and third years, respectively. He studied at Montrose Christian High School in the United States and made his professional debut in 2012, joining the Akita Northern Happinets of the bj League (then). In the 2013-14 season, he won the Most Assists and Best Five awards. In 2014, he participated in the Dallas Mavericks' Summer League and challenged himself in the NBA. In 2016, he joined the Chiba Jets and became the first Japanese player to win the MVP award in the 2018-19 season. He will compete in the Tokyo Olympics in 2023. He led the team as captain at the FIBA Basketball World Cup, helping the team qualify for the Paris Olympics.

First of all, I'm happy that we were able to hold the event for the second year in a row, and that we were able to have so many athletes and wonderful artists attend, just like last year, and that it ended successfully. I had a lot of fun, so I hope everyone enjoyed it too.
One thing we've improved from last year to this year is that we've stopped playing live basketball.
To be honest, that was too tough (laughs). Last year, we had them play serious one-on-one, so this year we changed it to three-point battles and the like. It was a huge help, and I'm really glad!
There are no plans for next year yet, but it's rare to have the opportunity to interact with athletes from so many different sports, so I would be happy if we could hold the event. I will do my best to make it happen again next year.

The allure of "UNAVERAGE FES."

Basketball player Yuta Watanabe
I enjoyed today mostly as a fan. I was invited to participate last year as well, but due to scheduling conflicts I wasn't able to attend, so I'm glad I was able to participate this year. It's rare to have the opportunity to interact with athletes from other sports in this way, so I'm really grateful. I was able to talk about various things with many top athletes, and it was a great experience.

Badminton player Misaki Matsutomo
Thanks to my connection with ZAMST, I was contacted by Togashi and had the opportunity to participate in this wonderful event. I was also very inspired and had a great time. Thank you very much.

Volleyball player Masahiro Yanagida
I am very happy to have had the opportunity to take part in such a wonderful event. Normally, I would have thought that athletes and artists like us would participate in an event to entertain our fans, but I also enjoyed myself as a fan in this space, and I think everyone in the venue enjoyed themselves as well. It was a very meaningful experience.

After the interview

We were able to experience a new form of entertainment that transcends various boundaries, including sports and music.
It was refreshing to see people who normally work in different fields gathered together in one space, and it was impressive to see them interacting with each other while showing mutual respect.
It was so much fun to experience the enthusiastic moment when the whole venue came together!
