■ Profile
Amuse's first boy group of the Reiwa era.
The average age is 16.5 years old. *As of October 22, 2025
The series will begin serialization in Shueisha's Myojo magazine in the March 2025 issue.
The project involves readers participating in a follow-up to the members' growth leading up to their debut, and the group's name, "The Right Light," was also decided by reader vote.
The group name contains the meanings "We want to shine a light into each person's life and the one step beyond," and "Everyone has the right to live bright and shining days."
They are currently working towards becoming a national boy band that can be active not only as artists but also in a variety of genres, including variety shows and dramas.
Amuse's first six-member boy band, The Right Light, is aiming to perform at the Dome in five years' time. They debuted in November, and in December they will hold their first live performance since their debut. We spoke to them about their honest thoughts now.
■ Childhood and the beginnings of group activities
Sean: I lived my childhood day by day. I started beatboxing as a special skill when I was in elementary school. I wanted to perform at school parties, so I taught myself how to do it. I played the guitar as a hobby, but I got scouted while performing on the street in my hometown of Nagasaki, which led to me starting to do group activities. At first I thought it was a bit suspicious (laughs), but my mother contacted me and that's how I got to where I am today.
Kido: When I was in elementary school, I was active outside, but I also tried a lot of different things, like learning the piano and violin and playing soccer. My motto was, "It's okay if I can't do it, but I'll just try." I got into the entertainment industry when someone from a Nagasaki TV station called me after club activities, and I met a scout from Amuse. That's when I decided to give it a try.
Kuroki: When I was a child, I loved the book "Kobito Zukan" and often went looking for it with my grandmother. Even now, I think, "I wish there were dwarfs." I entered the entertainment industry through the Amuse Boys Audition, as I wanted money to buy a motorcycle. I was originally interested in acting, and my favorite actor is Suda Masaki. As an artist, I aspire to be like Nissy (Nishijima Takahiro) and Nagase Ren.
Nishiura: I played soccer for 13 years until the summer of my third year of junior high school, and even studied abroad in Spain to take part in a tournament. My entry into the entertainment industry came from the Amuse Boys Audition, which my older sister applied for without my permission. I won second place in the audition, and before I knew it, I was here. I went to a SUPER EIGHT concert when I was two years old, and ever since then I've had aspirations to become an artist, but I never thought I'd actually become one. I'm excited to move from being on the spectator side to being on stage.
Hoshi: When I was little, I was very close to my grandma. When I got home from school, I would go straight to my grandma's house and we would eat roasted sweet potatoes with salt and talk together. I started to aspire to a career in showbiz when I was in the youngest class of kindergarten. It was when I saw Arashi that I first felt the desire to do it. But I didn't have the courage. My mother entered me for the Amuse Boys Audition as a commemoration, but I didn't make it to the final round, but my current manager contacted me and that's how I got to where I am today.
Matsuse: I think I used to walk around Komazawa Park with my dog and my mother until I was old enough to understand. I've also been doing karate since I was in fifth grade, and I still do it today. What got me into the entertainment industry was winning the judges' special award at the Junon Super Boy Contest. I'd like to use this style to become a model in the future.
■ The decision to debut and its significance
Sean: When I heard about our debut after the pre-debut live in August, I was happy to have another goal to devote myself to. I'm not good at dancing, and I still struggle with it. In fact, that was the reason I took a break from group activities, which caused a lot of trouble, but the other members supported me so much that I was able to come back, so I'm grateful for that.
Kido: After the pre-debut live performance, I was wondering what my next goal should be, and then my debut was decided, so I'm happy to have a new goal. My dream is to become an artist who is supported by many people.
Kuroki: I wasn't there when everyone heard about our debut from our manager. I had an audition so I joined a little late. I met up with everyone just as they had finished listening to the news about our debut, so I couldn't keep up at all. After I got home, it gradually started to sink in, and I realized I needed to get even more focused. I want to remember my humility and beginner's mindset.
Nishiura: I still don't have much experience and haven't had much experience, so rather than feeling happy, I thought about the weight of my debut. I strongly feel that I need to be prepared.
Hoshi: Rather than being happy, I was honestly feeling anxious and worried. While other groups have built up a lot of experience in terms of technique and performance, we still have little to offer, so I felt the importance of our debut.
Matsuse: I was very happy! There was a time when I took it for granted that this group would be able to debut, so I'm reflecting on that. Now, with the support of our fans and these members, I feel like I'm not afraid of anything. I want to work even harder and become a nationally known group.
■The appeal of their debut song "YES"
Sean: It's a really catchy song with positive lyrics that make listeners think, "I'll do my best tomorrow too." I want to give a performance that can convey those feelings.
Kido: The lyrics are very positive. I would be happy if listening to this song would motivate you or lift your spirits even just a little.
■ Enthusiasm for the solo live in December and future plans
Kuroki: We want to show how much we've improved as a group of six since our pre-debut live in August. This is a solo live, so we'll do our best to show everyone the changes we've made since the last time and to leave no regrets.
Nishiura: August was our pre-debut, but December will be our debut performance. I think that feeling will be reflected in the performance, so I want to make sure that I am fully prepared.
Hoshi: My goal for the future is to work hard to become a group and artist that is loved by our fans.
Matsuse: When the time comes for this group to appear on a music program, I want to be the kind of presence that makes people think, "I want to watch it because we're on." For the December live show, I'll do my best to make it a concert where you can feel each of our individual personalities and make people think, "I want to go again."
Sean: Each member of The Right Light has their own unique personality, and it's precisely because of these individualities that we're such an appealing group. If you're even slightly interested, I'd be thrilled if you looked us up!
