"ROPONGI Conte League" (Nippon no Shacho Team vs. Nelsons Team)

The "ROPPONGI Conte League," a team competition of Yoshimoto comedians performing comedy sketches, will be held for approximately nine months from December 2025 at YOSHIMOTO ROPPONGI THEATER, Yoshimoto Kogyo's first new hub for comedy centered around comedy sketches.
The league will be a round-robin tournament between six teams. The outcome will be decided entirely by audience votes. The competition will be a test of pure comedy ability and team cohesion, and the team that emerges at the top of the league will receive a prize of 300,000 yen.
This tournament is the second installment following the hugely successful "Makuhari Conte League" that concluded in April this year. A total of six teams will be entered, each captained by Nanamagari, GAG, Nelsons, Nippon no Shachou, Ginga Yume Yume, and Kawaretei. Each captain will draft six comedy duos from the east and west, and form a team of seven, including themselves.
We recently covered the "ROPONGI Conte League" (Japan's President Team vs. Nelsons Team) held on December 3rd.

About the venue for this league, "YOSHIMOTO ROPPONGI THEATER"

This is Yoshimoto Kogyo's new location, specializing in comedy sketches, which opened in July 2025. It is designed to allow you to fully experience the realism and sense of unity of comedy sketches, and you can enjoy comedians taking on new challenges in an unprecedented environment.

■ Student newspaper intern's report on the "ROPONGI Comedy League"

It was my first time to see a comedy sketch show, but I was immersed in the sense of unity that only an audience-participation show can provide, and it was a really enjoyable time from start to finish.
I was particularly impressed by Gerardon's skit, which humorously exaggerated common train experiences that anyone can relate to. Even though there was no set, I was instantly drawn into the world of the pair, from the opening to the punchline. Also, the genius pianist's skit drew me into a whirlwind of laughter, born of the set's full use. It was fascinating to see how each duo and trio used different props in this way.
Furthermore, the friendly relationship between the comedians and their genuine expressions could be seen during the opening and MC sessions, which I felt was a warmth that is unique to the Conte League. The audience voted to decide the winner, so there was no boundary between the stage and the audience, and it felt like the whole venue was livening up the Conte League. Thanks to that, I was laughing nonstop for the entire 75 minutes, and it was a very energizing performance. I would definitely like to go see it again.

When the ROPPONGI Conte League contestants first appeared and lined up on stage, I was amazed at the sheer number of participants. The ROPPONGI Conte League pits two groups against each other, with the winner decided by audience votes. This system, which involved the audience, created a sense of unity. During the opening greetings, the contestants displayed their strength by using physical prowess to liven things up, and then verbally challenging each other. The skits were divided into groups that used props and groups that performed solely with movement. The content of the material ranged from relatable material to those that involved moving around the stage. Even the themes unrelated to the contestants were easy to understand and thoroughly enjoyable. When the results were announced, the teams all prayed and cheered, demonstrating their solidarity. It was a rare opportunity to see so many comedians at once, and I'm sure it was a treat for any "comedy fan." Even for those who regularly watch manzai, I felt that the skits broadened their perspective on comedy.

This was the first time I saw live comedy.
I was overwhelmed by the closeness to the comedians and the power of the excitement in the venue, which you can't experience on TV or YouTube. There were also moments when the laughter and reactions of the entire audience were reflected on stage, and I could really feel the excitement in the entire venue. This sense of unity between the comedians and the audience is what I really enjoyed about watching comedy live.
What particularly impressed me was Gerardon's "Crowded Train" skit. I had seen it on YouTube before, so I knew how it would play out, but the hilarious expressions and detailed movements had me bursting out in laughter! lol
As a result of the audience voting, the total number of votes received by the teams was decided by an unexpected 2:2 split, making it a very close race, and there was an incredible sense of suspense as we didn't know what would happen until the very end!
Tension and laughter alternated until the very end, making for a very exciting time.
